We are dedicated to providing education and oppurtunities to the children of our community.
Welcome to Desert Streams School. We are located in the Kibera slums of Nairobi, Kenya. We are dedicated to providing education and oppurtunities to the children of our community. We began operations in 2005 and have continued to grow since then. Our origin story is one of hope and hard work in the face of crushing poverty and a series of unbelievable challenges. We started our school with a generous donation of $40 from a visiting missionary who believed in our dream. Our school started as a single room and has blossomed into a pillar of our community.
Unfortunately, our mission to provide education to the children living in the slums of Kibera is in serious trouble. In January of 2017, after more than a decade of building our school piece by piece, we suffered a massive fire that decimated our school. What wasn't destroyed by the fire was stolen by looters. Despite this tragedy we persevered. We came together as a community and cleaned the school grounds of the ruins of our beautiful school. We set up temporary classrooms and resumed operations.

We have survived the last three years, but are facing a new challenge that may be the end of our crusade. We need to raise money to rebuild our school and comply with health and safety regulations. If we do not comply our school will be shut down and we will be forced to abandon our children to the slums of Kibera. We ask that anyone that is able to help us to please donate to our cause. Judy Oloo is our senior administrator and is happy to speak with anyone that has questions about our insitution or would like to make a donation. Please feel free to contact us at anytime by phone or email. Thank you.
